PEOPLE v. ARMANDO DIONALDO Y EBRON

FACTS:

On May 16, 2003, Edwin Navarro was forcibly kidnapped by three men in the Health Is Wealth Gym in Caloocan City. Roderick Navarro, Edwin's brother, reported the incident to the police and received a threatening phone call from the kidnappers. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of P15,000,000.00 but eventually agreed to release Edwin in exchange for P110,000.00. Roderick was instructed to bring the money to Batangas and wait for further instructions. On his way to Batangas, Roderick received a call from the kidnappers instructing him to park at a specific location. Later, four men arrived in a car, exchanged a phone with Roderick, and left. Edwin's dead body was found the next day in Batangas. Rodolfo Larido, an employee at the gym, confessed to being involved in the kidnapping and provided information leading to the arrest of the accused-appellants. Accused-appellants were charged with kidnapping Edwin for ransom and causing his death. During trial, the prosecution presented witnesses and evidence to establish the guilt of the accused-appellants. The Regional Trial Court convicted them of the crime of Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention and sentenced them to reclusion perpetua. The Court of Appeals affirmed the RTC's decision, finding that the prosecution was able to establish all elements of the crime and conspiracy among the accused-appellants.
