PLACING THE MINDANAO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (MEDCo) UNDER THE OVERSIGHT OF THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC AND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (NEDA)
WHEREAS, the Mindanao Economic Development
Council (MEDCo) was created pursuant to Executive Order No. 512 dated
19 March 1992, as amended, to promote and coordinate the active and
extensive participation of all sectors to effect the socio-economic
development of Mindanao;
WHEREAS, Executive Order No. 496 dated 23 January 2006 placed MEDCo under the oversight of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP);
WHEREAS, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is primarily responsible for formulating continuing, coordinated and fully integrated social and economic policies, plans and programs;
WHEREAS, for administrative expediency and economy, and consistent with the policy that all socio-economic programs and activities of the government shall be programmed within the context of well-formulated and consistent long, medium and short-term development plans and policies to promote both the growth of the equitable distribution of the benefits of such growth to the members of society, there is a need to place MEDCo under the oversight of NEDA;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby order:
Section 1. The Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo) is hereby placed under the oversight of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). NEDA shall provide general supervision to MEDCo in the formulation of continuing and integrated socio-economic development plans, policies and programs, and in the exercise and implementation of its regular functions provided under Executive Order No. 512, Series of 1992, as amended by Executive Order No. 244, Series of 2000.
Sec. 2. Executive Order No. 496, Series of 2006 and all issuances, rules and regulations or parts thereof which are inconsistent with this Executive Order, insofar as MEDCo is concerned, is hereby repealed or modified accordingly.
Sec. 3. This Executive Order shall take effect fifteen (15) days following its publication in a national newspaper of general publication.
