[ PROCLAMATION NO. 1629, September 26, 2008 ]

DECLARING TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2008, AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF EASTERN SAMAR



WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 6692, dated February 10, 1989, declared September 28 of every year as Balangiga Encounter Day and a special non-working holiday in the Province of Eastern Samar to commemorate the Balangiga encounter;

WHEREAS, September 28, 2008 falls on a Sunday prompting the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar, through its Governor, to request that the celebration be moved to September 30, 2008;

WHEREAS, the move is but fitting and proper so that the people of the Province of Eastern Samar may be given full opportunity to celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, do hereby declare Tuesday, September 30, 2008, as a special (non-working) day in the Province of Eastern Samar.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
