AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE SECRETARY OF JUSTICE TO PURCHASE THE PAPERS, DOCUMENTS, AND OTHER PRINTED WORKS AND UNPUBLISHED MANUSCRIPTS RELATIVE TO THE PHILIPPINES, OWNED BY THE HEIRS OF THE LATE WENCESLAO E. RETANA, AND THE COPYRIGHT UPON THE SAME, AND APPROPRIATING THE NECESSARY FUNDS FOR THE PURPOSE
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:
SECTION 1. The Secretary of Justice is hereby authorized to purchase from the heir.s of the late Don Wenceslao E. Retana all papers, books, documents, printed works, and unpublished manuscripts on the Philippine Islands in their possession, including the copyright upon the same, which shall all become the property of the Government of the Philippine Islands and shall be kept and filed in the Philippine Library and Museum. The Secretary of Justice shall make a careful investigation and shall decide which of the books, documents, papers, and unpublished manuscripts shall be purchased.
SEC. 2. The sum of fifteen thousand pesos or so much thereof as may be necessary is hereby appropriated, out of any funds in the Insular Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to carry out the purposes of this Act.
SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect on its approval.
