WHEREAS, the National library, UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines and the Philippine Library Association, Incorporated (PLAI) are jointly hosting the 46th General Conference of the International Federation of Library Associations and Federations (IFLA) in Manila from August 18-23, 1980.
WHEREAS, the Association has been established to promote internationally and nationally librarianship, information science and documentation.
WHEREAS, the forthcoming General Conference will bring honor and prestige to the Philippines, it being the first time that such conference will be held in Asia. As all its past Congress had been held in Europe except in 1970 when it was held in Washington D.C. U.S.A.
WHEREAS, hold in the General Conference in Manila will help focus attention on the development, of information science and technology in the country as well as project the cultural, social, political and economic achievements of the New Society.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, hereby direct that:
(1) The Organizing Committee composed of officials from the National Library, UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines and the Philippine Library Association, Inc. (PLAI) shall plan, direct, co-ordinate and obtain from other government offices such assistance and support as may be deemed necessary for the conference.
(2) All government ministries, corporations, agencies and offices extend their assistance and support to the Organizing Committees in terms of funds, equipment, personnel and resources deemed necessary for the conference.
