[ Act No. 2341, February 27, 1914 ]

AN ACT REMITTING THE BOND OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS FURNISHED BY MELCHOR BABASA AND APOLONIO BELMONTE IN THE CASE OF THE UNITED STATES VERSUS PEDRO ALVAREZ, ALIAS ARARO.

Whereas the bond of ten thousand dollars furnished by Melchor Babasa and Apolonio Belmonte in favor of the defendant in the case of the United States versus Pedro Alvarez, alias Araro, in the Court of First Instance of Batangas, has been declared forfeited because said defendant did not appear at the trial of said case;

Whereas such appearance was impossible, notwithstanding all means employed by said sureties, because said Pedro Alvarez had been killed in an encounter he had with the Constabulary; and

Whereas the Supreme Court itself implicitly recommends to the Legislature, in its decision, the remission of said bond: Now, therefore,

By authority of the United States, be it enacted by the Philippine Legislature, that:

SECTION 1. The bond of ten thousand dollars furnished by Melchor Babasa and Apolonio Belmonte in favor of the defendant Pedro Alvarez, alias Araro, which has been declared forfeited by the Court of First Instance of Batangas, is hereby remitted.

SEC. 2. The public good requiring the speedy enactment of this law, the same shall take effect on its passage.
