TAXI METER CALIBRATION AND RESEALING



In order to protect the interest of the commuting public, including the private investors public utilities and in accordance with Section 16 (C) of Commonwealth Act 146 and Section 5 (k) of Executive Order No. 202, the LTFRB is hereby directed to ensure that authorized fares are levied fairly and equally.  To effectively carry out this function, sealing and/or resealing and calibration of taxi meters are hereby reassigned to LTFRB.

The LTFRB may consider outsourcing of calibration of taxi meter(s) to private individuals or companies, provided these individuals/companies are duly accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Per agreement during the Public Hearing and Consultation held on 27 September 2004 with various Taxi Operators and Taxi Meter firms, the following fees, which are separate from regular LTFRB Fees and Charges imposed under Department Order No. 2001-082, shall be collected by LTFRB:

1. Sealing Fee during fare increases/decreases at P100.00;
2. Resealing Fee during the semi-annual resealing of taxi meters;
a. P15.00/seal for Nissan Sentra and Toyota Corolla (big body)
b. P30.00/seal for other regular sedan
c. P45.00/seal for Asian Utility Vehicles (AUVs)
3. Taxi Operator's Calibration Record Booklet Fee at P50.00 valid for 5 years;
4. Taxi Meter Calibrators Regulation Fee at P2,500.00 annually; and
5. Calibrator's Record Book Fee at P150.00/book.

A fine of P1,000.00 shall be imposed against operators who fail to comply with this Order.

All issuances or parts hereof which are inconsistent herewith are modified and/or superseded accordingly.

This Order shall take effect immediately following the completion of its publication in a newspaper of general circulation and filing of three (3) copies hereof with the UP Law Center pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 11 dated 09 October 1992 of the Office of the President.
