LIFTING OF IMPORT RESTRICTIONS ON BELGIAN PRODUCTS COVERED BY DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS 23, 24, 26 AND 29 SERIES OF 1999



In view of the following decisions issued by the European Commission (EC) in relation to the dioxin contamination that occurred in Belgium on 15 January 1999:

1999/640EC      -        excluding bovine animals and products derived therefrom from the dioxin-related restrictions;

1999/788/EC     -        excluding from the dioxin-related restrictions feed ingredients and compound feeding stuff produced after 02 April 1999, and

2000/301/EC     -        repealing dioxin-related restrictions on products of porcine or poultry origin intended for human or animal consumption,

the willingness demonstrated by the Belgian government to take corrective measures in regard to problems encountered locally as a consequence of the contamination; and assurances by the Belgian government that steps are being taken to pre-empt a recurrence of these problems, the processing of all permits for the importation of products covered by DA Administrative Order Nos. 23, 24, 26, and 29 Series of 1999 is hereby resumed, provided these products are produced after 20 September 1999.
