[ POEA GOVERNING BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 01, April 03, 1998 ]
OWWA CONTRIBUTIONS
WHEREAS, the OWWA Board of Trustees in 1994 has adopted the per contract policy in the assessment of OWWA membership contributions to provide adequate welfare and protection programs and services to the Overseas Filipino Workers;
WHEREAS, under the said policy all contract workers deployed overseas whether landbased or seabased including workers under a renewed/extended contract whether express or implied, shall be levied a uniform membership fee in the amount of US$25 or its peso equivalent at an exchange rate based on the applicable conversion rate pursuant to a previous agreement with the seabased and land-based sectors embodied in OWWA Memorandum of Instruction No. 104, Series of 1991. Provided however that returning workers on vacation, holidays, emergency leave and other similar reasons, going back to complete their original contract shall be exempt therefrom;
WHEREAS, efficient collection may be implemented only with the cooperation of POEA.
NOW, THEREFORE, the POEA Governing Board in a meeting duly convened, resolves as it is hereby RESOLVED.
To authorize the POEA Administrator to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration for the implementation of the policy upon determining its viability and legal implication.
