[ PRC BOARD OF PHARMACY RESOLUTION NO. 08, SERIES 2004, February 03, 2004 ]
PRESCRIBING THE GUIDELINES FOR THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN PHARMACY
WHEREAS, Sec. 18 (c) Art. III of R.A. No. 5921, "An Act Regulating the Practice of Pharmacy x x x x", as amended by Sec. 1 of P.D. No. 1363, states as follows:
For this purpose, the above-mentioned prescription pharmacy, pharmaceutical manufacturing laboratory and a hospital pharmacy shall keep a separate record of Pharmacy students who have undergone said internship program directly under their control and as a result thereof shall issue the proper certificate of said hours of internship. It shall also be the duty of said establishments to submit annually a complete report of the names of those who have undergone training under their supervision and corresponding number of hours of internship credit of each of the pharmacy students to their respective colleges or schools and to the Board of Pharmacy for proper accreditation;" and
WHEREAS, the Board of Pharmacy has not yet issued a Resolution, implementing the afore-quoted provisions through its formulation of the Guidelines for the Internship program; and
WHEREAS, after consultation with the Philippine Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (PACOP), Philippine Pharmaceutical Association, Inc. (PPhA), and other Pharmaceutical Associations, the Board formulated the said Guidelines pursuant to the same provisions;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board Resolved, as it hereby resolves, to prescribe and promulgate the Guidelines of Internship Program for the Student Trainee Activities in Community (Prescription), Hospital and Manufacturing (Pharmaceutical Laboratory) Pharmacy as Annexes "A"* , "B"* and "C"* , respectively, appended to this Resolution as integral part thereof.
To complete the Internship Program in Pharmacy, student-trainee shall comply with the following guidelines:
The submission of the Certificate of Completion in the Internship Pharmacy Programs shall be required for the licensure examination for Pharmacists to start in July 2004.
This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its publication in the Official Gazette or newspaper of general circulation, whichever is earlier.
A copy of this Resolution shall be furnished to the Philippine Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (PACOP), the Philippine Pharmaceutical Association, Inc. (PPhA), and other pharmaceutical associations.

"Sec. 18, Candidate for board examination. A candidate for the board examination in Pharmacy shall have the following qualifications:

He shall have completed an Internship Program which shall consists of at least nine-hundred sixty hours, one-half of which shall be spent equally distributed in a prescription pharmacy, a pharmaceutical laboratory and a hospital pharmacy duly accredited and the rest of the hours of internship shall be spent in any or all of the said establishments at the choice of the candidate.

1. The total number of nine-hundred sixty-hours (960) shall be completed in accordance with the three (3) pharmacy activities/establishments - - 1.1. Community 1.2 Hospital, and Manufacturing (Annexes "A", "B", and "C". respectively).
2. The nine-hundred sixty hours (960) shall be divided into two:
2.1 four hundred eighty hours (480) shall be spent equally into three (3) minor programs - - one hundred sixty hours for each activity/establishment; and
2.2 four-hundred eighty hours (480) shall be earned as a major program either in any, or in all, of the three (3) activities/establishments.
3. The establishments shall keep a separate record of pharmacy students who have undergone said internship; shall issue the certificates of completion of the said hours; shall submit annually a complete report of the names of those who have undergone training under their supervision and the corresponding number of hours of internship credit of each of the pharmacy students or trainees to their respective schools/colleges/universities and to the Board of Pharmacy for proper accreditation.
