[ PRC BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS RESOLUTION NO. 80, s. 2001, February 06, 2001 ]
SPLITTING SCIENCE INTO BIOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES AS FIELDS OF SPECIALIZATION IN THE LICENSURE EXAMINATION FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS, SECONDARY LEVEL
WHEREAS, Board Resolution No. 95-01, Series of 1995, adopted science as one of the fields of specialization in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers; Secondary level;
WHEREAS, teachers with majors in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or General Science take Science as a field of specialization in the licensure examination for teachers;
WHEREAS, the Board found out that the examinees with Science as a field of specialization had difficulty in passing for the reason that they had to study three (3) more subjects in addition to their major subject;
WHEREAS, after a series of consultations with the Deans of Colleges of Education and representatives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), the Philippine Association of Teacher Education (PAFTE) and State Universities Colleges Teacher Educators Association (SUCTEA), the National Institute of Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED), Science Education Institute (SEI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), science professors and science experts, there surfaced an urgent need to split Science into Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences;
WHEREAS, the Board adopts the recommendation in the consultation/workshops that teachers who major in Physics, Chemistry and General Science take Physical Science and that teachers who major in Biology and Environmental Science take Biological Sciences; and
WHEREAS, the two subjects will be included in the Licensure Examination for Professional teachers and the questions shall be within the scope of the syllabi in the LET 2001;
WHEREFORE, the Board RESOLVED, as it hereby RESOLVES, to split Science into two (2) subjects of specialization: namely, Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences and to give examination in both fields in Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers, Secondary Level. The Board likewise resolved to adopt the syllabi of the subjects as contained in the document hereto attached as ANNEX A* and made an integral part of this Resolution.
This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its complete publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation, whichever comes earlier.
The subjects shall be included in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers, Secondary Level starting in August 2001, and the questions to be prepared shall be within the scope of the syllabi.
Let copies of this resolution be furnished to all teacher training institutions, CHED and DECS.
