PASTEURIZED FRESH MILK AND OTHER DAIRY PRODUCTS DO NOT POSE ANY RISK IN THE TRANSMISSION OF FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE



Attached is the 1st indorsement (Text available at ONAR, U.P. Law Center) dated April 10, 2001 of Mr. Simeon S. Amurao, Chief, Veterinary Quarantine Service, BAl, South Harbor endorsing a copy of Memorandum dated April 3, 2001 informing that as per Office international des Epizooties Animal Health Code; fresh milk and other dairy products are not included in the ban (MO 5, s. 2001) as long as these products have been inactivated using any of the following procedures:
  1. ultra-high temperature (UHT) (UHT = minimum temperature at 132 C for at least 1 second);

  2. double high temperature - short time pasteurization (HTST) (72 C for at least 15 seconds);

  3. HTST combined with another physical treatment, e.g., maintaining a pH-6 for at least 1 hour or additional heating to at least 72 C combined with dessication.
