WHEREAS, the Board of Marine Deck Officers in its Resolution No. 03, dated March 23, 1999 has requested the Commission for the reasons therewith, to reduce the number of licensure examinations for Major/Minor Patrons from four (4) to two (2) times a year.

WHEREFORE, the Commission, resolved to grant the request and in accordance therewith, hereby reduces the number of licensure examinations for Major/Minor Patrons from four (4) to two (2) times a year starting in 1999 by amending PRC Resolution No. 592, Series of 1998 (Schedule of Licensure Examinations for 1999) by canceling the licensure examinations for Major/Minor Patrons scheduled for April and October 1999.

This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation, whichever comes earlier.

Let copies of this Resolution be furnished ail schools, colleges and universities, public or private, offering courses in Marine Transportation for licensure examinations (all levels), for information and dissemination to their graduates and/or their examinees.

Reducing the Licensure Examinations for Major/Minor Patrons From Four (4) to Two (2) Times a Year
WHEREAS, since 1997, the Board has been giving the licensure examinations for Major/Minor Patrons for four (4) times a year.

WHEREAS; for the year 1999, the examinations of Major/Minor Patrons are scheduled from January, April, July and October.

WHEREAS, for the years 1997 and 1998 including the first examination scheduled for January 1999, the number of examinees for every examination are as follows:

WHEREAS, the foregoing statistical data show that the Board Examination in the Major/Minor Patrons was minimal compared to the number of examinees in the other grades/levels of Marine Deck Officers who number by the hundreds or even thousands.

WHEREAS, to reduce the expenses incurred in giving examinations and the work load of the Members of the Board, it is necessary to increase the number of examinees in the Major/Minor Patrons examinations by reducing the number of examinations from four (4) to two (2) times a year.

WHEREFORE, the Board resolved, as it hereby resolves, to request the Commission to reduce the licensure examinations for Major/Minor Patrons from four (4) to two (2) times a year starting in 1999 by amending PRO Resolution No. 592, Series of 1998 (Schedule of Licensure Examinations for 1999) by deleting or cancelling the licensure examinations for April and October 1999.
