In order to further enhance the security of the human person and the well-being of every Filipino seafarer and crew on-board Philippine registered ships and following the results of the discussion of the issue of piracy and armed robbery against ships during the margins of the 86^th Session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC86) which was held at the IMO Headquarters in London from 27 May - 05 June 2009, all shipping companies and relevant maritime entities are enjoined to disseminate to all their seafarers and crew on-board their ships the attached^[*] extract from the United Nations (UN) Guidance on Surviving as a Hostage.

The above-mentioned UN Guidance, lifted from œSecurity in the Field-Information for Staff Members of the United Nations System  was made as an attachment to MSC86/WP.7/Add.1 which was approved at the Plenary of the MSC86.
