INCLUSION OF SHIP SECURITY OFFICER (SSO) IN THE LIST OF TRAINING PROGRAMS (ANNEX 1 OF RESOLUTION NO. 03, SERIES OF 1998) AND PROVIDING GUIDELINES IN THE ACCREDITATION THEREFOR



Pursuant to Resolution No. 16, Series of 2007 and Resolution No. 10, Series of 2009, you are hereby informed that the Ship Security Officer training program to be conducted by training providers is now included in the list of training programs to be accredited by the Maritime Training Council pursuant to Resolution No. 03, Series of 1998.

Application therefore, for the conduct of such course shall be in accordance with the procedures and requirements prescribed under Resolution No. 03, Series of 1998.

The qualification requirements for instructors, assessors and resource person for the course Ship Security Officer (SSO) shall be the following:

Lead Instructor

*   Must be a licensed Marine Officer at the Management Level
*   Completed approved training in Instructors Course (IMO Model Course 6.09)
*   Completed approved training course in Ship Security Officer (SSO) course and performed duties as SSO on board ship for a period of at least six (6) months in total during the preceding three (3) years.

Assessor

*   Must be a licensed Marine Officer at the Management Level
*   Completed approved training in Assessors Course (IMO Model Course 3.12)
*  Completed approved training Course in Ship Security Officer (SSO) course and performed duties as SSO on board ship for a period of at least six (6) months in total during the preceding three (3) years
*   Have gained practical assessment experience

Resource Person

The training provider shall be allowed to engage the services of other persons with established expertise on particular topic/s. The topics which can be lectured by Resource Person/s are identified in the course syllabi.

This Memorandum Circular shall take effect immediately.
