[ PRC BOARD OF OPTOMETRY RESOLUTION NO. 07, S. 1999, September 15, 1999 ]

ADMINISTRATION OF THE SPECIAL CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION IN PHARMACOLOGY



WHEREAS, Section 31 of R.A. No. 8050, known as the œRevised Optometry Law of 1995 , requires that persons who have been admitted to the practice of the optometry profession prior to the passage of said Act, has to take a course on pharmacology to be prescribed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and pass special certification examination to be administered by the Board before they are allowed to use specific diagnostic pharmaceutical agents.

WHEREAS, the Technical Panel on Optometric Education prepared the course of study of a special course on pharmacology which has been approved by the CHED in November 1998 and this course, since its approval, has been offered by schools, colleges and universities offering the optometry course.

WHEREAS, there are a number of registered optometrists who have completed the special course on pharmacology and ready to take the special certification examination to be administered by the Board.

WHEREAS, the Board, in preparation of the special certification examination in pharmacology, has adopted a syllabus or terms of specification of the special course on pharmacology.

WHEREAS, the Board has decided, to conduct and administer the special certification examination in pharmacology starting this year.

WHEREFORE, the Board hereby resolved to conduct the special certification examination in pharmacology to registered optometrists on February 5, 2000.

Applicants for examination shall submit applications with the Application Division of the Professional Regulation Commission duly accomplished with the following documents attached thereto:

(a) authentic or authenticated copy of certificate of registration as optometrist;

(b) authentic or authenticated copy of current professional license and

(c) certificate or diploma of completion of the special course on pharmacology issued by the official of the school, college or university authorized to issue such certificate or diploma bearing the official seal of the school, college or university.

This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days from its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation, whichever is earlier.

Let copies of this Resolution be furnished the deans of schools, colleges or universities offering the special course on pharmacology, the Chairman of the CHED and the President of the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists, Inc., for dissemination to their members.
