[ Act No. 3364, December 03, 1927 ]

AN ACT CREATING A COMMITTEE FOR THE PURPOSE OF MAKING AN ECONOMIC SURVEY OF MINDANAO AND SULU.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:

SECTION 1. The Governor-General is hereby authorized to designate the Director of the Bureau of Non-Christian Tribes, the Director of Public Works, the Director of Agriculture, the Director of Forestry and the Director of Lands to form a Committee which shall: (a) conduct a complete and thorough investigation of the physical conditions and economic resources of Mindanao and Sulu; (b) lay out a program for the progressive economic development of said islands; (c) classify the areas best adapted to the production of sugar cane, coconut, abaca, rubber, rice, and corn; (d) locate sites most convenient and which should be reserved for town settlements; (e) formulate a systematic program of road and railroad construction; (f) determine the ports that should be developed; and (g) propose means for exploitation of waterpower and mineral resources.

SEC. 2. The Committee, with the approval of the Governor-General, is authorized to require the services of such bureau officials and employees as may be needed to carry out the purposes of this Act. The compensation and expenses of said officials and employees shall be paid from the appropriations for the corresponding offices.

SEC. 3. The board shall submit to the Philippine Legislature the result of its investigation within two years from the date of the approval of this Act.
