[ BAI MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. 17, September 05, 2008 ]

LIFTING THE TEMPORARY BAN ON THE IMPORTATION OF DOMESTIC AND WILD BIRDS AND THEIR PRODUCTS INCLUDING POULTRY MEAT, DAY OLD CHICKS, EGGS AND SEMEN ORIGINATING FROM DENMARK



WHEREAS, based on the report submitted to the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) by Mr. Torben Grubbe, last 25 August 2008, Denmark declares that it has regained its notifiable avian influenza free country status according to the requirements of article 2.7.12.3 of the OIE Animal Health Code;

WHEREAS, no further outbreaks of low pathogenic notifiable avian influenza (LPNAI) in poultry have been detected since the outbreak was confirmed on 28 April, 2008;

WHEREAS, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has implemented the necessary measures in accordance with the European Union Directive 2005/94/EC;

WHEREAS, the veterinary authorities approved the disinfection of the affected holding on 23 May 2008;

WHEREAS, based on the evaluation of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), the risk of contamination from importing poultry and poultry products from Denmark is negligible;

NOW THEREFORE, I, ATTY. ARTHUR C. YAP, Secretary of Agriculture, by the vested in me by law, do hereby lift the temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds and their products including poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs and semen originating from Denmark.

All import transactions of the above products shall be in accordance with the existing and regulations of the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Animal Industry and Meat Inspection Service (DA-BAI-NMIS).

All orders, rules and regulations or parts thereof, which are inconsistent with the provisions of this order, are hereby repealed or amended accordingly.

This ORDER shall take effect immediately.
