[ POEA ADVISORY NO. 11, S. 2013, October 24, 2013 ]
SALARY CUT OF HOUSEHOLD SERVICE WORKERS IN CYPRUS
The gross salary of a domestic worker is now fixed at 460 (approx. US$623.47**) from the previous 484 (approx. US$655.99). Further, the net salary per month was reduced from 331 to 314 (approx. US$425.58). The Ministerial Committee has also decided to terminate the annual automatic wage indexation for domestic workers.
The Post believes that not all Filipino domestic workers in Cyprus will be affected by the reduction in wages since some are actually receiving higher salaries as a result of long (over 5 years) and good working relationships with their employers. However, newly deployed Filipino domestic workers as well as workers previously deployed and in the process of completing their contracts are the ones most likely to be affected by the salary cut.
According to the data provided by the Post, there are around 16,176 Filipinos in Cyprus, 68.11% of whom are temporary migrants and mostly domestic workers.
For the information and guidance of all concerned.
