CASES OF FRAUDULENT TEACHING JOBS IN CHINA
Date Filed: 05 January 2015
The Department of Foreign Affairs reported on an article published in South China Morning Post citing the growing labor market for foreign English teachers in mainland China. According to China s Ministry of Education, about 350 million students learned English in some capacity last year.
The attractive salary package and the laxity of Chinese schools in accepting foreigners to teach English had attracted many foreign teachers, many of whom have been allegedly tricked by agents or short changed by schools. These illegal activities are reportedly difficult to monitor as said activities are usually conducted through on-line forum.
Prospective applicants, particularly English teachers, seeking employment in that country via the internet, are advised to take extra-precautionary measures to establish the authenticity of such employment offers by verifying the same with the POEA.
The general public is enjoined to report any illegal recruitment or fraudulent job recruitment via the internet to the POEA Anti-illegal Recruitment Branch at telephone nos. 721-0619 and 721-0650.
For the information and guidance of all concerned.
