The recent upsurge of violence in Yemen has caused Assuranceforeningen or SKULD (Gjensidig) and Protection & Indemnity (P & I) Club based in Norway to issue a risk management advice in calling on shipping companies to assess the security situation before considering port calls in the said country.

A risk management advice included warning shipowners against any shore leave or similar activity (like crew change) in any Yemeni port. It also advised

shipowners to always carry out CAREFUL RISK ASSESSMENT before signing on any voyage contract that would involve ships calling on any ports in Yemen. The advice given, however, does not carry a declaration that all ports in Yemen are classified under the war risk trading area, which may be interpreted as automatically providing a premium pay for seafarers.

All shipping companies, manning agencies and seafarers are hereby informed that the no crew change and no shore leave policies are in effect for all Filipino seafarers employed on ships calling on Yemeni ports.
