GUIDELINES FOR THE OPEN-DATE MARKING OF VITAMIN C - ENRICHED LIQUID FRUIT DRINKS

Scope
This guideline prescribes the requirements for the open-date marking of Vitamin C - enriched liquid fruit drinks which have been processed to enable storage at ambient conditions.

Definitions
For the purpose of this guideline, the following definitions shall apply:
2.1 Fruit Drink is a beverage prepared from fruit juice or fruit juice concentrate or fruit puree and/or fruit flavors, into which sugar and citric acid may have been added.
2.2 Vitamin C - Enriched (fortified) fruit drink is one to which ascorbic acid has been added such that throughout the estimated shelf-life of the product, the Vitacim C content is not lower than 30 mg/250 ml of a ready-to-drink product.

Requirements
All products covered by this guideline shall prominently indicate in their label a "Best before" date, at which time the specified limit is expected to be reached.
3.1 Minimum Vitamin C - 80% of label claim but not less than 30 mg/250 ml of a ready-to-drink product.

Date of Effectivity
For products covered by this guideline, full compliance to the open-date marking regulation shall be on January 1983.
