AMENDMENTS TO BFAD MEMORANDUM CIRCULARS RELATIVE TO GUIDELINES FOR MONITORING OF IMPORTED FOODSTUFFS



Based on the recommendation of the National Radiological Preparedness Committee (NRDPCC), the following amendments to BFAD Memorandum Circulars relative to Guidelines for Monitoring of Imported Foodstuffs are hereby issued, for the information and guidance of all concerned.

1. BFAD Memorandum Circular No. 1-A dated 19 September 1986 is hereby further amended such that the new administrative control limit of radioactivity for meat and meat products is 14 Bq/Kg in lieu of the former limit of 6 Bq/Kg; and

2. BFAD Memorandum Circular No. 1-B s. 1986 dated 27 October 1986 is also hereby further modified, such that all imported foodstuffs, including milk and other infant products coming from non-European countries, shall be subjected to spot-checking by duly authorized representatives of the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) up to January 15, 1987 only, after which future actions will be based on the outcome of the periodic assessment to be conducted by NRPCC.

All Memorandum Circulars or parts thereof inconsistent with this administrative issuance are hereby repealed or modified accordingly.

This Circular shall take effect immediately upon approval.
