METRICATION OF UNITS OF MEASURE USED IN THE SUGAR INDUSTRY



WHEREAS, the use of metric system as the sole unit of measurement in the Philippines has been mandated through Batas Pambansa Bilang 8 effective January 1, 1983;

WHEREAS, the implementation of the metric system in the sugar industry was initiated through Circular Letter No. 17, Series of 1976-1977;

WHEREAS, the Department of Trade and Industry has called the attention of the Sugar Regulatory Administration on the continued use of œpiculs  as a unit of measure in the sugar industry;

WHEREAS, it is to the advantage of the industry to adopt the use of œLKG  or 50-kilo bag unit instead of the œpicul  in order to promote uniformity and simplification of measurements;

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the powers vested in the Sugar Regulatory Administration, it is hereby ordered that:

SECTION 1. The use of the metric system shall be fully enforced within the sugar industry effective the next crop year beginning September 1, 1991.

SECTION 2. The œLKG  or 50-kilo bag unit shall be adopted in lieu of the œpicul .

SECTION 3. All other units shall be converted according to the attached Table of Conversion to promote consistency of measures.

SECTION 4. Provisions of sugar orders, circular letters, rules and regulations contrary to or inconsistent with this Order are hereby amended, modified or revoked accordingly.
