[ DECS MEMORANDUM NO. 160, September 05, 1991 ]
COMPLAINTS AGAINST THE UNIFICATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVEMENT
2. It was reported that the said movement has penetrated several secondary, post-secondary, and tertiary schools all over the country through their alleged front organizations like the Collegiate Association for Research and Principles (CARP), Professors Association for Research and Principles (PARP), the Won Wha Do and Taek-Won Do. The last two organizations are engaged in the teaching of Korean martial arts. These organizations are allegedly the sources of new members of the movement. It was reported further that members are required to undertake fund raising activities such as selling ball pens, peanut brittle, and other items under the guise of missionary work. As a result, almost always, student-recruits drop out from school.
3. We adhere to and respect freedom of religion, but never allow the use of this freedom to exploit the youth and destroy the treasured values of our people. In this regard, heads of schools and education officials concerned are requested to conduct internal investigation of the activities of the aforementioned organizations to determine if they have direct or indirect links with the Moonies Movement. Results of the investigation can be used as basis in determining whether the accreditation issued to these organizations will be renewed or terminated.
4. It is desired that the Higher Education Division of DECS Regional Offices will conduct an independent monitoring and assessment of the activities of the aforementioned organizations in the different school campuses. A report of the results of the monitoring and assessment activities shall be submitted to the Office of the Secretary as soon as possible.
5. For the immediate dissemination and compliance of all concerned.
