[ EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 145, June 19, 1948 ]

AUTHORIZING THE COLLECTION OF VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS OF FIVE, TEN, AND TWENTY CENTAVOS FROM PUPILS AND STUDENTS ENROLLED IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY, AND COLLEGIATE SCHOOLS, RESPECTIVELY, WITH WHICH TO FINANCE THE REPAIR OR RECONSTRUCTION OF THE HOUSE OCCUPIED BY DR. JOSE RIZAL IN CALAMBA, LAGUNA, AND OF DAPITAN PARK IN ZAMBOANGA



WHEREAS, the house occupied by Dr. Jose Rizal in Calamba, Laguna, and Dapitan Park in Zamboanga, have been reported to be in a state of decay;

WHEREAS, such house and park, for their historical value, should be preserved as national shrines and be made the objects of pilgrimage, especially on the part of school children, so as to keep ever alive the ideal of the Filipino youth and arouse reverence for our martyr and otherwise vitalize the meaning of patriotism;

WHEREAS, in order to perpetuate this ideal and deepen this sense of patriotism on the part of our school children, it is desirable that they be given an opportunity to help in the repair or reconstruction of the aforecited historical places;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Elpidio Quirino, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws of the Philippines, do hereby authorize the corresponding Superintendents of Public Schools and the Presidents or Deans of State and Private Universities and the Principals or Directors of Private Colleges and Schools the collection in 1948, during the period beginning on June 19, date of Rizal ™s birthday, and ending on December 30, date of Rizal ™s death, of voluntary contributions in the amounts of five centavos from every elementary school pupil, ten centavos from every secondary school student, and twenty centavos from every collegiate student enrolled in the public and private schools, the proceeds from said collection to be used for the repair or reconstruction of the house occupied by Dr. Jose Rizal in Calamba, Laguna, and of Dapitan Park in Zamboanga.
