DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST OF EVERY YEAR AS BARRIO LIEUTENANTS' WEEK



WHEREAS, the barrios are the foundation of our economic and democratic way of life;

WHEREAS, the progress and welfare of every barrio in the Philippines depend to a large measure upon the leadership and devotion to duty of the barrio lieutenant; and

WHEREAS, the role of a barrio lieutenant is a continuous process of self-sacrifice;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines in recognition of the constant sacrifices of barrio lieutenants for the welfare, progress, and prosperity of the barrio people, do hereby declare the last week of August of every year as Barrio Lieutenants ™ Week.

Every mayor is hereby enjoined to hold programs during the Barrio Lieutenants ™ Week honoring the barrio lieutenants and to create a citizens ™ committee to select during said week the most outstanding barrio lieutenant of his city or town.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 12th day of August, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the twelfth.
