DECLARING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1957, AS A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE PHILIPPINES



WHEREAS, men of wisdom and patriotism assembled in Manila on October 16, 1907, to test our people ™s capacity for self government;

WHEREAS, that historic Philippine Assembly demonstration in a most convincing manner our ability to run the government in the best traditions of democracy; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of the patriotic service of that august body to democracy and freedom, it is meet that we commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Philippine Assembly;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by section 30 of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby declare Wednesday, October 16, 1957, as a special public holiday throughout the Philippines. I enjoin our people to turn their thoughts to that group of wise and patriotic men constituting the Philippine Assembly, from which they may draw added inspiration for greater dedication to the national welfare.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 4th day of October, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the twelfth.
