DECLARING A PERIOD OF NATIONAL MOURNING ON THE DEATH OF FRANCIS BURTON HARRISON, FORMER GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF THE PHILIPPINES



WHEREAS, FRANCIS BURTON HARRISON, former Governor-General of the Philippines, died on November 21, 1957;

WHEREAS, his death is deeply mourned by the Filipino people, to whose welfare he was intensely devoted; and

WHEREAS, his mortal remains will arrive on December 3, 1957, for burial in the Philippines;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, in token of loving remembrance of the late Francis Burton Harrison, and as an expression of our people ™s bereavement for the irreparable loss, do hereby proclaim the period from December 2 to 5, 1957, as a period of national mourning for our departed former Governor-General. During this period, flags of all government buildings and installations throughout the Philippines shall be flown at half-mast.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 2nd day of December, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven and of the Independence of the Philippines, the twelfth.
