[ EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 126, April 30, 1968 ]

IMPLEMENTING AND GIVING EFFECT TO UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION S/RES/232 (1966) OF 16 DECEMBER 1966 IMPOSING ECONOMIC SANCTIONS AGAINST THE ILLEGAL REGIME IN SOUTHERN RHODESIA



WHEREAS, the Security Council of the United Nations adopted Resolution S/RES/232 (1966) on 16 December 1966, the full text of which is annexed hereto, imposing mandatory economic and political sanctions against the present illegal racist regime in Southern Rhodesia;

WHEREAS, Article 25 of the Charter of the United Nations establishes the obligation of all Member States to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council;

WHEREAS, in the aforementioned resolution Member States of the United Nations are called upon to carry out this decision of the Security Council in accordance with Article 25 of the United Nations Charter;

WHEREAS, the Philippines has consistently supported the United Nations position on Southern Rhodesia; and

WHEREAS, the Philippines reaffirms its policy of non-recognition of the racist illegal regime in Southern Rhodesia, and fully supports the legitimate struggle of the people of Southern Rhodesia to self-determination and independence;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby impose a total and comprehensive ban on all trade, direct or indirect, between the Philippines and Southern Rhodesia, and require all authorities and Departments within their respective responsibilities, to comply strictly with the provisions of operative paragraph 2 of United Nations Security Council Resolution S/RES/232 (1966) annexed hereto.

This Order shall take effect immediately.
