DECLARING AUGUST 1 TO 31, 2007 AS THE PHILIPPINE GENERAL HOSPITAL CENTENNIAL MONTH, PROVIDING FUNDS FOR ITS TATAK PGH PLUS AS PGH CENTENNIAL EXPANDED HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE POOR PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has achieved recognition as the country s leading public hospital that provides quality health care for the less fortunate, since it was established on August 17, 1907;
WHEREAS, the PGH as premier government hospital has provided world-class training to the country s top medical professionals to address health problems requiring expertise and higher level of care;
WHEREAS, the PGH is in the midst of celebrating its centenary (August 17, 2006 - August 17, 2007) which will culminate in August 2007 as it celebrates its centennial month;
WHEREAS, in order to enhance awareness of its contributions to the implementation of various health programs and services and in leading the national health research system in recognizing the emergence of new health and medical problems, generating and producing contemporary treatment modalities and promoting healthy lifestyles, it is but fitting to accord due recognition to many years of PGH s major accomplishments but with great impact to the country;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period of August 1 to August 31, 2007 as the Philippine General Hospital Centennial Month .
To provide funds in support of the Expanded Health Services for the Poor or Tatak PGH Plus Networking Program. A Key Project Identified for PGH Centennial Year 2006-2007 , in coordination with NCR-Local Government Units and selected DOH Regional Hospitals and to prop up other important PGH Centennial programs and projects, the Secretary of Budget and Management is hereby directed to release to PGH the total amount of Forty Million Pesos (P40,000,000.00), inclusive of P4.5 Million for the purchase of one (1) fully equipped medical mobile van, and for in-house medical and surgical missions, but excluding the restoration and commissioning of murals, chargeable against the FY 2007 Budget, R.A. No. 9401, subject to the provisions of pertinent laws, rules and regulations.
The LGUs concerned are hereby directed to actively support the abovesaid PGH centennial programs and projects by providing counterpart funds for the Philhealth enrolment of 2,000 indigent patients/LGU and to provide other support funds therefor,
