[ PROCLAMATION NO. 1436, December 17, 2007 ]
AMENDING PROCLAMATION NO. 120, SERIES OF 1999, BY RE-SETTING THE CELEBRATION OF THE PHILIPPINE BOOK DEVELOPMENT MONTH FROM JUNE TO NOVEMBER OF EVERY YEAR STARTING 2008
WHEREAS, pursuant to Proclamation No. 120, series of 1999, the month of June has been declared as Philippine Book Development Month;
WHEREAS, it was observed during the past celebrations of the aforementioned event that the participation of the students could not be maximized, considering that the same coincides with the opening of classes and the students and teachers alike are still adjusting to the pace of the schoolwork;
WHEREAS, the low participation in some of the activities lined up for the celebration could likewise be attributed to the unpredictable weather condition during the month of June, since it is onset of the rainy season; and
WHEREAS, the transfer of the celebration of the Philippine Book Development Month to November is consistent with the November 24-30 schedule for the National Book Week celebration, provided for under Proclamation No. 109, issued by the late president Manuel L. Quezon.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby amend Proclamation No. 120, series of 1999, by resetting the date of the celebration of the Philippine Book Development Month from June to November every year beginning 2008.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
