DESIGNATING THE PERIOD FROM JULY 19 TO AUGUST 19, 1947, ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS MONTH AND AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE TUBERCULOSIS SOCIETY TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL FUND AND EDUCATIONAL DRIVE DURING THE SAID PERIOD.
WHEREAS, tuberculosis remains one of the most dreadful diseases in our country, and its control is a vital factor in the economic rehabilitation and general welfare of the Philippines;
WHEREAS, the campaign against tuberculosis must be carried on with unrelenting vigor through the combined efforts and resources of all citizens and residents of the Philippines in order to control the spread of this disease;
WHEREAS, the Philippine Tuberculosis Society is handicapped in waging an extensive and effective campaign against tuberculosis because of losses in buildings, pavilions, dispensaries, and equipment it sustained during the war and also because of the increase in the number of people afflicted with the disease due to unfavorable conditions obtaining during the enemy occupation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Manuel Roxas, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby designate and set aside the period from July nineteenth to August nineteenth, nineteen hundred and forty-seven, as Anti-Tuberculosis Month and authorize the Philippine Tuberculosis Society to conduct a national fund and educational drive during said period. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines irrespective of nationality or creed to assist in this humanitarian campaign by giving generously so that we may keep this dreadful disease under control. I authorize all the treasurers of provincial, city, and municipal governmental as well as school officials to accept, for the Philippine Tuberculosis Society, voluntary contributions and donations and to issue official receipts therefor.
