[ PROCLAMATION NO. 178, August 10, 1955 ]
CALLING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL EXISTING VACANCIES IN THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Whereas, the Senate has certified that a vacancy exists in the Senate due to the election of Senator Carlos P. Garcia as Vice President of the Philippines; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives also certified that vacancies exist in the first district of the province of Albay and in the first district of the province of Samar;
Now, therefore, by virtue of the authority conferred upon me by section 20 of Republic Act No. 180, known as the Revised Election Code, I, Ramon Magsaysay, President of the Philippines, do hereby proclaim and call special elections shall take place on Tuesday, the eighth day of member of the Senate to fill the unexpired portion of the vacancy therein; in the first district of the province of Albay and in the first district of the province of Samar for the purpose of electing the members who are to fill the unexpired portions of the terms of the aforementioned existing vacancies in the House of Representatives, which elections shall take place on Tuesday, the eight day of November, nineteen hundred and fifty-five, to coincide with the general elections for provincial, city, and municipal officials and for eight senators.
The provisions of the Revised Election Code insofar as they are applicable shall be followed in the conduct of the elections herein called.
